The Whopper 2011
Product Description
' "Went off with it? What do you mean, Tigger?" Hoppy sounded incredulous. And so the whole story had to be told. The hooking of Pickle Barrel, the long, stern battle in the darkness, his peril in the weeds, and finally, the towing of the raft and the loss of the rod.' "BB" is without doubt, one of the finest writers and illustrators of angling literature. His children's book The Little Grey Men won the 1942 Carnegie Medal in Literature and was adapted for television in 1975. The Whopper (first published in 1967), being a book about fishing and much shorter, is less well known but just as captivating. In it he tells the story of Tigger Thomas and Hoppy Doffton and the extraordinary lengths they go to in their quest to capture an enormous carp called Pickle Barrel. It is a joy to read for young anglers and will remind older ones of the sheer enjoyment of youthful fishing escapades and just how difficult it is to catch a very large carp.
