Stand outside a palm-shaded wooden hut in a Thai fishing park, and do battle with a colossal Mekong Giant Catfish. See an exotic Featherback pulled from a muddy canal by a rural Thai angler in a quiet, backwater town. Share a few beers and a magnificent catch of Rohu with a few new friends, and experience a fishing competition with an angry Thai bar-girl. Catch your first double-figure Carp sitting by the banks of a cliff-lined lake near the border of Thailand and Cambodia, or cast a lure from a deserted tributary close to the Bridge over the River Kwai, with only the birds and mosquitoes for company. Whatever your fishing preference, this country undoubtedly has it. This book will take you on an exciting journey through the diverse variety of freshwater fisheries in Thailand, and show you how to catch the incredible fish that swim in them. Peter Jaggs provides a humorous and panoramic portrait of the species, tackle, baits and waters; as well as some of the characters that the reader will encounter during his angling adventures in Thailand - the Disneyland of freshwater fishing. 'An informative and long-overdue guide to freshwater fishing in Thailand.' JEAN-FRANCOIS HELIAS, FISHING ADVENTURES THAILAND 'Especially useful as an ebook; the unknown species you catch in Thailand can be targeted and identified right by the water's edge on your mobile phone or ebook reader.'
John Wilson’s influence upon British angling, through his photography and writing spans nearly four decades and includes over 30 hardback books, plus another 30 in which he has contributed either copy, photos or both. From crewing on a big game boat whilst living in the tropics, to fishing around the world when working on a cruise ship, to owning and running a Norwich tackle shop for over 25 years, his enthusiasm and involvement with angling has never waned. His long running series for Anglia Television ‘Go Fishing’ which was regularly screened on Channel 4 (he made 108 half hour programmes) spanned a staggering 17 years, followed by the much acclaimed ‘Fishing Safaris’ and ‘Dream Fishing’ series for Discovery Television.Together with his own sell through videos and DVDs, over 150 half hour TV programmes featuring John’s unique, often humorous and very personal slant on angling have appeared on our TV screens during these last two decades. In 2003 in their ‘50 years of fishing’ birthday special, Angling Times, Britain’s largest angling publication, voted John the greatest angler of all time. Ask a non-angler to name someone in fishing and the name ‘Wilson’ immediately comes up. In this honest, sometimes even raunchy and controversial autobiography (politicians and water authorities beware) John documents the 60 years he has loved going fishing.
The post Sixty Years a Fisherman: The Autobiography of John Wilson first appeared on Oakwood Fisheries.
